Our new and improved Singing Day website has now been posted! :) Niall spent lots of time being the genius that he is and putting it all together when I (Sharyn) chilled out in the background. It is a pretty cool website even if I do say so myself. It is a baby so it will grow, and any ideas are always most welcome. Please check it out and if you feel like giving us any feedback we will be very grateful to read it <3 www.singing-day.com
Singing Day began when Niall and I (Sharyn) decided to sing to each other all day, for the whole day! So we woke up in the morning and instead of talking we sang all our words. It was fun at first…. We went to the shops to get some breakfast and we sang to the people in the shop. It was really funny. The woman in the coffee shop spoke back to us as if it was an everyday occurence that she was used to. Hahaha :) Then we went into a sweet shop, and we were really enjoying singing so we decided to sing the names of all the sweets printed on the sweet jars. This time the girl working in the shop looked like she wanted somewhere to hide away from us. We sang our explanation for our madness to her and then left the shop laughing. It was very entertaining.
It was quite easy for us to sing to strangers because we had each other as back up. If we were alone it might not have been so easy.
Throughout the day it became more difficult to continue to sing instead of talk as we started to judge our singing voices and get irritated with ourselves that the tune “wasn’t good enough”. We kept going anyway, and sang about our discomforts to each other.
When it came to the time to return to talking, it felt a bit strange, as we can adapt quite easily to new things.
We learned so much from this day and became extra aware of how many judgments our society has about singing and using our singing voice. But, even from this one day of singing, we could already feel benefits. We could notice that even in other areas of our lives we were more willing to not listen to our judgmental and criticising mind, helping us to be even nicer and more loving to people in our lives. We also felt more creative ideas come to us. We felt strong and filled with self-confidence.
And that was just after one day. This day gave us the idea of Singing Day as it is now. We wanted to share our experience with others. That was a few months ago now. It is continuing to grow and evolve through us. We are happy and interested to see where it will go…. :)
